2 This presentation will: Introduce the East Roads Team Talk about what we do and what we are responsible for Focus on the Craigentinny and Duddingston Action Plan Update you on current NEP and other projects; and invite suggestions for future works Invite you to participate in a ‘mini workshop’

4 What are we responsible for? Ward 14 – Craigentinny and Duddingston: Category 1 Roads- 6.7km Category 2 Roads- 9.1km Category 3 Roads- 7.5km Category 4 Roads- 47.4km Total = 70.7km Ward 17 – Portobello and Craigmillar: Category 1 Roads- 19.1km Category 2 Roads- 4.2km Category 3 Roads- 6.6km Category 4 Roads- 63.3km Total = 93.2km

5 What are we responsible for? Inspection and maintenance of roads and pavements Co-ordinating utility works Allocating disabled parking spaces Organising road markings and general road repairs Providing permits (for scaffolding, skips, etc). 94 permits have been processed by the team since March 2012

6 What are the team’s key work priorities? Inspection of roads and pavements Coordinating road works through the Road Register Defect repairs Weather emergencies Right First Time Administer Revenue and Capital road repairs budgets NEP projects Customer enquiries including accident and property damage claims Process traffic orders Large scale works on the roads network such as the removal of the King’s Road Roundabout

7 How can I report an issue? Call the Clarence switchboard on , or Contact the East Environment Team on , or at Attend Environment Forum meetings and complete New Local Issues forms

8 Craigentinny and Duddingston Community Plan Actions/ Updates: Publicise Neighbourhood Environment Programme & Neighbourhood Improvement Programme budgets: The NEP programme is publicised on the Neighbourhood Partnership and Council websites, on Twitter and through local community groups. Identify accidents / blackspot locations: There will be an opportunity at the end of this presentation to provide feedback on potential accident blackspot locations Update on NEP project progress: A written report is circulated at each Environment Forum meeting Encourage local reporting of roads and pavement issues through ‘Local Issues’ reporting form: The Local Issues form is distributed at each Environment Forum meeting

9 Current Projects: Right First Time Right First Time is an ongoing project to permanently repair defects on roads and pavements throughout the city A repair squad is working within East Neighbourhood to repair defects up to 10m2 in size. If there are defects bigger than this, they will be identified and repaired at a later date Recent locations in Ward 14 include Portobello Road, Nantwich Drive, Restalrig and the Findlays Approximately £400k spent on this project in East Neighbourhood in 2012/2013

11 C&D NEP Project Update: 2012/2013

12 Craigentinny Avenue/ Portobello Road Junction: Extend width of narrow footway at the east end of Portobello Road, re-set parking arrangements outside local shops and alter the junction at Craigentinny/ Restalrig Avenue After the Craigentinny and Duddingston Business Meeting on 11 January, it was decided to remove the proposed Zebra crossing from the designs for this project. The leftover funds will now contribute to costs for the new Puffin crossing on Portobello Road Proposed start date: mid February 2013 Estimated completion date: 29 March 2013

13 Portobello Road at Morrisons Upgrade to road markings and signage New layout of road markings will assist vehicle and pedestrian movements at the junction of Morrisons at Portobello Road. Proposed start date: late February 2013 Estimated completion date: mid March 2013

14 Marionville Road at Dalgety Install new pedestrian refuge island on Marionville Road. Proposed location is e ast of Wishaw Terrace, due to limited road width. Location of island is to be clarified. A B

15 Northfield Crescent Upgrade handrails on steep footways bounding the Crescent & Broadway. ERS Blacksmith working on location at present. Completion date – mid Feb 2013

16 Northfield Broadway Upgrade signs and road markings New layout of road markings currently being developed to assist reducing vehicle speeds adjacent to Holyrood High School. Design ongoing Anticipated start date: March 2013 Estimated completion date: end of March 2013

17 London Road Install new dropped crossings Form a series of new footway dropped crossing & localised footway improvements at and around junction of London/ Lower London Rd to assist disabled residents at new flats on London Road. Design to be completed and passed to contractor by early February 2013 Estimated completion date: mid March 2013
