How they get food  Fungi are heterotrophs  They get their food from dead and decaying organisms in the soil.

Cells  Fungi are eukaryotes.  Some are multi- cellular, others are unicellular

Types of Fungi  Fungi are divided into 4 groups. Threadlike, Sac, Club and Imperfect.

Threadlike Fungi  600 species of mold  many common bread molds such as Rhizopus.  Produce spores in their thread like hyphae.

Sac Fungi  Contains 30,000 diverse species.  It includes yeast, morels, truffles.  Produce spores and structures that looks like sacks.

Club Fungi  25,000 species of mushrooms bracket fungi, plant parasites and puffballs.

Imperfect Fungi  25,000 species which include Penicillium, an important antibiotic.  They do not reproduce sexually.

Interesting Facts  Fungi can be used for baking.  Fungi can used as a medicine.  Some trees cannot grow without fungi.
