Student Expectations Students need to know and understand why a resume is necessary, and the purpose of giving this information to perspective employers. To be able to define the terminologies that will be used in the actual text of the resume.

Identify and develop a job objective that states your goals. Provide a viable list of experience and knowledge to be organized in resume format.

Basic Knowledge is Necessary! Students must have basic word processing skills and knowledge. Proper language useage is necessary for grammatical correctness. Application skills/knowledge for the workplace must be recognized by students.

Lesson Successes Students learn identification of applicable skills, education, experiences. Students gain an understanding of what employers today will be expecting from our young adults. Students practice skills of communication, which are quite necessary for positive employablility.

Lesson Shortcomings Students have short memories when it comes to experience. The information must be coaxed from their minds. Students lack confidence in abilities. Students show lack of workplace knowledge. Students show impatience, due to lack of commitment to workplace.

Pre-Test Results Students were tested for knowledge of resume terminology and definitions*

Post-Test Results

Reflections of Success! Students, even though lethargic and uninformed at the start of the lesson, picked up the terminology and necessity of creating a resume that gives positive information for employer use, in order to fulfill the prospective employee’s objective of employment. The students seemed to enjoy displaying their wares to the others.

Necessary Lesson Changes Prepare students with applicable workplace knowledge prior to the resume assignment. Break down assignments into bite-sized pieces. One step at a time! Make sure students understand expectations. Involve them in the research of jobs in the area.

Conclusions The lesson was once again a tremendous success. It has opened the eyes of many students to what is necessary for them to receive an offer of employment. Students understand how school and the education process show prospective employers their level of responsibility, determination, organization, etc.
