Why Structured Notebooks? Helps students learn organization Creates class “textbook” for EOG review Helps teacher be organized as well! Kids like structure (whether they admit it or not!) It created a framework for their learning

Common Core Writing Tasks Students should be practicing this as often as possible! How can we integrate this into what we are already doing? How do we get our students to the level they need to be, especially if not quite there yet?

W1 Argumentative Task K Compose opinion pieces; state an opinion or preference 1 – 2 Write opinion pieces Introduce topic, opinion, reason, closure 3 – 5 Write opinion pieces on topics Support point of view with reasons and information 6 – 8 Write arguments to support claims Clear reasons and relevant evidence 9 – 12 Write arguments to support claims in an analysis of substantive topics or texts Valid reasoning, relevant and sufficient evidence
