Then answer the questions on the following screens. In recent years, contemporary music has become more and more international in scope. One noteworthy example is the music associated with cellist YoYo Ma’s Silk Road Ensemble. The group, influenced by the flow of ideas along the ancient trade road between Europe and Asia, has selected and performed traditional music from countries such as Turkey, Armenia, and China. Selections are typically performed on Western instruments blended with traditional instruments from the countries where the compositions originated. The resulting music, a mix of old and new, is intended to draw people from diverse cultures together.
