OCS Middle School Parent Orientation

Core Classes: Mr. Bilandzija: English/Language Arts Ms. Corona: History/Science Mr. C: Math

Study Hall Tuesday –Friday from 1:20-1:50pm. An opportunity to help students stay organized and receive extra help on their homework, if needed.

You can receive tickets for the following reasons: Tardiness Broken Core Value Breaking a Non-Negotiable

Core Values Respect Responsibility Self-Awareness Collaboration Planning & Time Management

Non-Negotiables Be on time and prepared with necessary materials No food, drinks, candy or gum. Water only and please bring a reusable container No cell phones or iPods on you. They MUST be turned off during the day. Be on time Complete assignments on time.

Consequences for tickets: 2 tickets in a week = to family 3 tickets in a week = phone call home More than 3 = teachers will discuss next steps with student

Homework Students will have daily homework assignments Expect about minutes of homework a night Late or incomplete assignments will NOT be accepted. Always posted on our website

Tips for supporting your Middle School Student: Check their homework log. Check the Website. Check their grades on Power School. Periodically, check in with their homeroom teacher. Limit TV, video games, etc… during the week. Make sure they arrive on time. Go through binders and backpacks to help stay organized

ILPs in Middle School Students will reflect on Core Values and look for areas of improvement Teachers and Parents will help students find strategies to improve in the core values Students will reflect on goals every semester and teachers will give feedback on report cards

Student Led Conferences At the end of the year, students will gather evidence and artifacts of work samples to show growth in academics and core values. They will present this evidence in a “showcase” format at the end of the year See sample rubric
