Presentation transcript:

Hazardous material Substances that pose a danger to health and safety to a living organism Corrosive refers to a substance that has the power to cause irreversible damage or destroy another substance by contact. Flammable easily set on fire; combustible Key Vocabulary Toxic A substance that is poisonous or otherwise harmful to a living organism or environment

1.It is possible to eliminate health and environmental hazards when working with household products. 2. You should carefully read the labels of chemicals on how to properly dispose of them. 3. If you can buy it, it is safe to use and dispose of down the drain or in the garbage. 4. Hazardous substances should not be allowed in household products. 5. When in doubt on how dispose of a chemical, you should consult a local waste collection center before washing a household product down the drain. In your science notebook, number 1-5 and answer the following questions as true or false.

After you have read through the role playing activity, make a list in your science note of at least 5 types of products that may be in your home that pose a hazard. Go back and revisit the 5 agree and disagree statements. Discuss with your group if you believe your answers are correct In your science notebook, copy each question and provide your answer in complete sentences. As a group, complete the disposal of hazardous products worksheets
