The iron age AFRICA

So what exactly was the iron age? It was the time after iron was discovered. It allowed people to create tools and weapons.

Not sure. It probably started by accident in the Tigris-Euphrates area, the Fertile Crescent. A fire that was very hot may have had some iron ore in it Uh …….. Iron has always been around. So how was it discovered?

By playing around and shaping the iron, different and interesting shapes were made.

The iron makers kept their skills a secret…. But secrets get out….

There was a population explosion

Why?

They had tools they could use to cultivate crops and keep domestic livestock They smelted and forged iron They produced pottery of characteristic types which they could barter Society became more organised. People wanted to “own” land Life became easier

Time line of the iron age About 200 AD
