Scotch Whiskey Michael Mortensen

History Scotland first began distilling spirits in the 1490’s. Shortly after Scotland was granted a monopoly on whisky distilling. Due to the risk of using up valuable grains and leading to famine, production was limited to for personal use only. First taxed by the Scottish government in 1644.

Ingredients The ingredients involved in Scotch Whiskey are few Barley Fresh water Peat (for the kiln firing process to add smokiness to the Scotch)

Regions of Scotland

English Involvement In 1603, Scotland fell under English control. The English brought Scotch to new parts of the world. Taxation of ingredients began. Taxation lead to illegal distilling. Revenues actually fell after taxation was implemented.
