Major Causes of the Great Depression 1. Hawley-Smoot Tarriff Act  Caused trade to fall 40% 2. Crisis in farm sector  demand high during WWI (farmers took out huge loans for seed/equipment) after WWI demand fell 40%  actually planted more crops in response to get more money (Bad idea)
