SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS When adequate competence in teaching has been demonstrated, practicum or student teaching candidates may be assigned responsibility for the class without the cooperating teacher being present. However, practicum students are not substitute teachers and cannot take over the class without a county employee in the classroom. Student teachers also are NOT substitute teachers but they will be assuming gradual responsibility for a two week period during the field experience. HOWEVER, they are not “substitute teachers”.

Standards You Will Meet… Standard 1: Teachers demonstrate leadership. Standard 2: Teachers establish a respectful environment for a diverse population of students. Standard 3: Teachers know the content they teach. Standard 4: Teachers facilitate learning for their students. Standard 5: Teachers reflect on their practice.
