218. COMPOUNDS FORMED FROM GREEK AND LATIN ELEMENTS In Greek and Latin, in contrast to English, roots do not typically stand alone. So compounds are composed of bound roots. Compounds formed in English from borrowed Latin and Greek morphemes preserve this characteristic. Example : eugenics, stethoscope, automobile

219. PREFIXES AND SUFFIXES Another method of enlarging the vocabulary Twentieth-century popular creations : stardom, filmdom, fandom, gangster Familiar endings such as –some, -ful and –less can be freely added

220. COINAGES New words must be attributed to deliberate invention of any products. Mostly, these coinages are the product of ingenuity and imitation as this to are being blended in variable proportion. Most of these coinages are spread thru advertisement, such as KFC, Pizza, milk. There are another coinages that use the acronyms, which means the combination of initial or few letters of 2 or more words. For example, KFC ( Kentucky Fried Chicken ) Blending different words are also considered as another type of coinages.

221. COMMON WORDS FROM PROPER NAMES Comes from the name of person and place. Example : ~ Tabasco sauce : the name of the Tabasco River in Mexico ~ Limousine : the name of a province in France More than 500 common words in English have been traced to proper names.
