BY: JENNIFER RECKELHOFF International Aid

What is International Aid and why is it important? International aid is when one country voluntarily gives another country resources in order to help them It is important because if we did not help them then thousands of people could die from starvation or other diseases

Previous attempts to help Usually international aid is provided after something devastating happens Aside from the work organizations you often don’t hear about any third world countries until there is nothing left (out of sight, out of mind) The Marshall Plan was developed several years ago to provide international assistance for Haiti so they can return to a better life by evaluating SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats)

Who receives aid? Most countries that receive aid are not well developed and often don’t have anything at all Countries that have been struck by natural disasters and need help with the rebuilding process Once the earthquake struck Haiti all the international was centered there, then another quake hit Chile. How do we evaluate the damage with the overall normal condition of the countries?

Natural Disasters There have been several devastating earthquakes this year alone: January 12, 2010-Haiti 7.0 February 18, 2010-China 6.9 February 26, 2010-Japan 7.0 February 27, 2010-Chile 8.8 March 8, 2010-Turkey 5.9 Some countries need a lot of help even when not effected by a natural disaster

Controversies with International Aid The major controversy with international aid is the fact that there is no way to provide accountability for it How do we know that the international aid has helped them enough to make it worth it? On the other hand, if we didn’t help, then how many more people would have died or been without food or shelter

What you can do to help Donate money Donate supplies: food, clothes, toiletries, tarps Sponsor a child Adopt Donate your time, helping people pack up supplies to send overseas
