Purpose To evaluate the effect of pregnancy on low-to- moderate refractive error (RE)
Setting Ophthalmology and Ob. &Gyn. OPD clinics.
Methods Fifty eight primipara with mean age 25±3 years (age range yrs.) and prepartum mean RE -3.5±1.25 diopters included in study. All patients underwent complete ophthalmic examination including cyclorefraction prepartum, during pregnancy and 4 months after delivery
Results Mean RE 4 months after delivery was ±1.5 diopters (p>0.05). Minimal changes of (RE) occurred during pregnancy
Conclusion Pregnancy has minimal effect on low-to- moderate RE. Further investigation on larger groups are suggested
