Ms. Clark

Today you will evaluate our knowledge of the formula for area of a rectangle and finding the perimeter of a rectangle. Today you will define the formula for the area of a triangle. Words to know Triangle Base Height

Grades are in so far. During work time ask Ms. Clark if you have any questions. 1 pt will be taken off of participation each day you do not have a notebook this week. (Can’t get one? Talk to Ms. Clark) Short quiz on Area vs. Perimeter today!!! 3 questions. Have questions? Ms. Clark is staying after school tonight!!.

How do we find the area of a rectangle? A = L x W If Ms. Clark had a rectangle that was 5 by 3 that means that we would multiply 5 x 3 to find the area.

What is the formula for the area of a rectangle?

What do you notice about the word perimeter? - It has the word PerRIMeter in it. Perimeter is adding together the outside or rim of a rectangle. Formula for Perimeter: P = 2 (l +w)

The chart below shows the populations of four different cities. a) Place the cities in order from least to greatest population. b) Find the difference between the least and greatest population. CityPopulation Austin656,562 Dallas1,188,580 Houston1,952,631 San Antonio1,144,646

What is the difference between area and perimeter? What would happen to the area and perimeter if all the side lengths are divided in half?

The school yard is a rectangle with a length o f 120 ft and a width of 80 ft. The PE teacher plans to make a field in the school yard. A. What is the area of the field be if she divides only the length in half? B. What would the perimeter of the field be if she divides only the length in half? The width?

Julian’s room is rectangular and has an area of 1,200 square feet. The width of the room is 30 feet. How long (length) is the room? A. 40 feet B. 360 feet C. 400 feet D. 570 feet What is the question asking you? Add, Subtract, Multiply or Divide?

Calculate the perimeter and area of the classroom in meters!!

Mrs. D purchased gifts to give away during the holiday season. She spent $85.63 on toys, $98.04 on clothes, and $ on electronics. If she had four 100 dollar bills to spend on gifts. How much money did Mrs. D have left after she purchased the gifts? A. $ B. $ C. $ D. $ What is the question asking you? Add, Subtract, Multiply or Divide?

What is the order of operations? Parentheses, Exponent, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction Or Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally

Sharpen pencils Sit away from your neighbor No talking Finished go to Mathmsclark.weebly.com and do triangle area assignment.

Watch the following youtube clip. Answer the following questions: What do you already know about triangles? 1. What is a triangle? 2. What does equilateral mean? 3. What does the word isosceles mean?

Area of a triangle has to formula A= ½ (b x h) Base means the bottom of the triangle how it would stand up. Height means the heights point (in right triangles it is one of the sides) in other triangles it is the longest line you can draw inside. ½ comes from the fact that a triangle is about half of a rectangle.

How is the area of a triangle different from the area of a rectangle?

Around the room there are different types of triangles. Find the base, height and area for each one. If you are not in class attached is the worksheet to complete and turn in.

Find the area of the triangle. Use the formula from your notes.
