The Real Plan, AIG Lincoln … (2007)

The Real Plan - C entral E uropean I nstitute of Tec hnology … CEITEC initiated in early 2005 Institutional background and umbrella for large infrastructure for basic and applied research in Science & Technology Focused on Life Sciences + Advanced Materials with direct links to Medicinal R&D Indicative budget around 400 million Euro Right in the centre of Central Europe

The Reality – University Campus Brno (2005 – ) Associated to Life Science Campus of the Masaryk University Campus worth about 200 mil Euro, built in (about m 2 ) More than 1000 PhD students in Life Science Includes Incubator for Biomedical Technologies

October 3, 2005 (Janez Potocnik and Petr Fiala) ILBIT Integrated Labs for Biomedical Technologies About m 2 of high-tech area in full operation

The Campus in 2007 Grand opening of 12 new buildings on September 17, 2007 The rest follows quickly (?)

Further Plans: The Structure of CEITEC Main layers of infrastructure Chain of many collaborating labs Strong links to the mother institutions Sophisticated blend of services and research Direct link to ICRC, common partners ICT Data Mining Imaging Further common infrastructure CEITEC Core Labs

The Further Plans: Eliminated Risks Lack of supercritical mass within individual institutions. Fragmented infrastructure for large Science & Technology projects and lack of professional management. Unfortunate split between Engineering (Brno University of Technology) and Medicine, Science, and Arts (Masaryk University). Split between the tertiary education and research in Adacemy of Sciences in general. Limited experience and tradition in IPR protection and technology transfer.

Potential Site of CEITEC (Advanced Materials Part, 2009—2015) The Brno University of Technology Campus and the Czech Technological Park
