Focusing Questions What is an interactive resource? What are the benefits of using interactive resources as either opposed to textbooks or as supplemental activities? How can we use interactive resources as a structured activity to understand the human body?

Instruction

Framing the Session What are interactive resources and what makes them useful and beneficial for both students and for teachers? What are the drawbacks to using interactive resources? If explicit directions are not given when the student is on the Web site, students can easily get off task.

Teaching Interactive Resources: Empower the student with control and confidence. Have entertainment appeal. Are active, not passive waiting for instruction. Reach students who are not benefiting from traditional methods. Allow students to move at their own pace.

Teaching When using interactive resources teachers need to: >Give specific objectives that must be completed. >Give specific directions on how to navigate through the resource. >Give questions that the student will answer to demonstrated they have complete the objective.

Guided Practice Step 1 Find your interactive resource and determine its usefulness. Find a resource that you would be able to use in the classroom. Write/type the URL into the space provided on the worksheet.

Guided Practice Step 2 Develop objectives for one resource. Clearly communicate learning outcome.

Guided Practice Step 3 Step-by-step instructions to navigate through the particular resource. Instructions need to be page specific. Mention on the page where the students will search for the links the links you want them to use. Indicate if the resource is a video, interactive resource, image, etc.

Guided Practice Step 4 Develop questions that the students need to answer so that you know the objectives have been achieved.

Work Time

Getting Started Search the Internet using the list of Internet resources to choose which resource they think is the most appropriate for their students.list of Internet resources Save the resources to the “Saved Web Sites Log” you have been using.

Work Time  Find your own interactive resource based on the aforementioned criteria.  Save your resource to your “Saved Web Sites Log.”  Develop at least two objectives the students will accomplish while on the interactive resource.  Create step-by-step instructions on how students should navigate through the interactive resource.  Develop questions that will determine whether the objectives have been achieved by the students.

Share

In this session we have learned: About interactive resources. What the benefits of using interactive resources are. How to use interactive resources as part of a structured activity. Which components are crucial for students to know when using interactive resources. Review

Share the resource you have chosen, your objectives, and a couple of questions you have developed for that particular resource for your students. Share
