Presentation transcript:

Science Fair Projects What Should I Do? Using the Scientific Method

11/25/2015Science Fair Projects2 Title  Give your project a title.  It should give the viewer an idea of what your experiment is about.  Make the title “catchy” so that it catches the viewer’s (and judge’s) eye.  Keep the title short.  It should be in bigger letters than everything else on the display.

11/25/2015Science Fair Projects3 Problem Question  Find a problem that can be answered with an investigation to draw a conclusion.  Create a question that can be answered by collecting data.  Is the investigation do-able?

11/25/2015Science Fair Projects4  Use many references from printed sources—books, journals, magazines, newspapers, etc.—as well as electronic sources—computer software and on-line services.  Gather information from professionals—teachers, librarians, scientists, etc.  Perform other exploratory investigations.  Find out as much as you can about your subject. Research

11/25/2015Science Fair Projects5 Materials List  Make a list of every item that you will need to perform the investigation.  Perform the investigation.  If you use anything that is not on the list, add it to your materials list.  This is kind of like the ingredients list in a recipe.

11/25/2015Science Fair Projects6 Procedure  This is the explanation as to how to perform the investigation.  List each step in order as to what to do to perform the investigation so that it comes out the same each time performed.  In a recipe, this would be the “how-to” part that tells you how to put it together.

11/25/2015Science Fair Projects7 Results  Data collected should be posted into some kind of chart, graph, diagram, etc. so that it is easily readable on your display.  You should also have a written explanation of your observations explaining what you have displayed in your chart, graph, etc.  This should answer the “why” it happened question.

11/25/2015Science Fair Projects8 Conclusion  This should be a summary of what you discovered or learned based on your investigation results.  Why do you think your results came out the way they did?  What would you do differently (if anything) if you were doing this again.
