Gulf Coast Housing FEMA had a peak occupancy of 143,123 families living in temporary housing units (Travel Trailers, Park Models and Manufactured Homes) across the Gulf Coast. Currently, FEMA has 46,662 families living in temporary housing units still located throughout the Gulf Coast. This represents a 67% reduction in the peak occupancy. 80% of these families are living in units located on private sites while they are rebuilding their homes. Formaldehyde Call Center On July 21, 2007, FEMA set up call centers for applicants living on group/commercial or private sites who have concerns, questions or request information about formaldehyde. Every person who has called FEMA’s formaldehyde call centers with concerns or questions has been offered an immediate move to a hotel or motel until alternative housing is located. 658 applicants have accepted a hotel/motel. All of the 3,787 applicants who requested alternate housing have been offered alternative housing options. Of that, 1,812 have moved to another housing option. FEMA continues to actively engage in case management for the remaining applicants while they make final decisions about their relocation alternatives. Data as of November 30, 2007
