In Canada and a few other places

 In its most simple form the political spectrum can be pictured as two axes crossing at right angles.  One axis describes a person’s economic philosophy (communist or capitalist).  The second axis describes the degree of government activity in public life that person is willing to accept (totalitarian or libertarian). Authoritarian Libertarian CapitalismCommunism

 Communism is a political ideology which would abolish class distinctions and promote a classless society.  Resources are commonly, communally, or publicly owned.  From each according to his ability, to each, according to his need would be an operating principle. Communism

 Competition and the sale of goods and services for profit drive the capitalist market system.  Individuals, or groups, dominate economic activity by accumulating and controlling capital.  Money, markets, investments and legal contractual rights are essential to capitalism. Capitalism

 Totalitarianism is a system dominated by a single ideology and party.  The party controls all political and social activities and suppresses opposition by terrorism.  All information is controlled through censorship, indoctrination and propaganda Totalitarianism

 Libertarianism is an ideological belief in freedom of thought and speech.  Libertarians are tolerant on social and lifestyle issues, which are considered none of the government's business.  The basic philosophy is "live and let live." Libertarian
