Reptiles & their Characteristics! By: Andrew (Crispin) Wesson

Characteristics  They all have very sharp or horny scales they are made of proteins.  5 toes.  They have lungs instead of gills like we do.  They have either a 3 or 4 chambered heart.

More Characteristics Their eggs are somewhat leathery and not like other eggs (Fish, Chicken). The fertilization stage occurs in the female. There are a variety of body shapes that help the animal to adapt to its environment. Skeleton is made of bone.

Pictures of Reptiles! Varanus Salvator Varanus Exanthematicus Typhlophis Squamosus

Reptiles and the Classifications  There are so many species of reptiles such as snakes, alligators, crocodiles.  The Reptiles belong to Kingdom Animalia, Phylum Chordata, Subphylum Vertebrata, Class Reptilia.

Komodo Dragons They are some of the bigger reptiles except for alligators and crocodiles. They are some of the bigger reptiles except for alligators and crocodiles. They can be 2-3 meters long (about 6-9 Feet long). They can be 2-3 meters long (about 6-9 Feet long). Varanus Komodoensis is their scientific name. Varanus Komodoensis is their scientific name.

Snakes They slither in which they move and they are very fast at sometimes. Lampropeltis Triangulum Elapsoides is the scientific name of the scarlet king snake which is my example. Here are some examples:

Reproduction Most species reproduce sexually. Most reptiles mate in the spring, and the young are born in the summer. The mother usually lays here eggs in rotten wood or in a whole or somewhere else on land.

How they Eat or Feed. Reptiles usually get food by hunting them down or scavenging around for some sort of food. They can stalk their prey or ambush them in some sort of way.

Camouflage? That’s right they can (example: Chameleons) change colors to blend into their surroundings. That’s right they can (example: Chameleons) change colors to blend into their surroundings. That helps keep them safe from predators. That helps keep them safe from predators.
