More Information on Each Mineral Borax is used in several detergent boosters. It is also used as odor control for athletes. Chalcanthite is a minor copper ore. Epsomite is a source of magnesium salts and has various medicinal uses. Glauberite is also known as “Glauber’s Salt.” Halite is rock salt which is used to melt ice. Melanterite is a minor ore of iron. All of these minerals are soluble in water.
