+ Education in Victoria and at Eltham East Primary School Kylie Weisheit & Tracey Beadles

+ Education System In Australia, the states and territories are mostly responsible for their own education systems. We are a part of the Victorian Department of Education and Early Childhood Development. Primary School – Prep through to year 6. Secondary School – Runs from year 7 through to year 12. The Department’s vision is that: Every Victorian thrives, learns and grows to enjoy a productive, rewarding and fulfilling life, while contributing to their local and global communities. We are working to ensure that: all children are engaged in and benefiting from schooling children are meeting expected literacy and numeracy standards, and overall levels of literacy and numeracy are improving Victorian students excel by national and international standards.

+ Curriculum In Victoria, all government schools plan, assess and report using the AusVELS curriculum. AusVELS runs from Prep to Year 10. It reflects the design of the new Australian Curriculum and incorporates Victorian priorities and approaches to teaching and learning. It incorporates the Australian Curriculum P–10 for English, Mathematics, History and Science. Other domains include The Arts, Economics, Geography, Languages, ICT, Health and Physical Education, Thinking Processes (to name a few).

+ Eltham East Primary School We are in the north eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria. We have 630 students from Prep through to Grade 6. The leadership team consists of: A Principal Two Assistant Principals Two Leading Teachers We have 27 classrooms with around 22 students in each class. Our students also do weekly lessons in: Physical Education Japanese Music Art

+ Pedagogy Our school values Respect, Teamwork, Enjoyment, Environment and Learning. In our classrooms we engage our students in the planning, organisation and evaluation of their learning. Students have access to technology including Interactive Whiteboards, iPads, MacBook laptops and Apple computers to support their learning. Our programs cater for a variety of learning styles. We aim to focus on: developing curiosity collaboration and problem solving. Individual needs of students are catered for through differentiated teaching. We study four major units across the year and incorporate mini units relevant to specific classes covering topics such as the seasonal changes, democratic process, Olympics, Bike Education, Chess, Robotics, film making, literature & author studies.
