In this workshop you will learn: Why being on LinkedIn is important for your job search How create a LinkedIn account How to start you Linkedin profile How to join Groups in LinkedIn n Basic etiquette for LinkedIn users How to find employers on LinkedIn

Is LinkedIn Important? Most Human Resource Professionals use LinkedIn. It’s NOT Facebook. Start fresh and control the content. It’s an easy way to be prepared for an interview. It is a way to make professional contacts – networking. You can be recruited from your LinkedIn profile.

How create a account Go to If you want to learn more, click on the “What is LinkedIn?” option on the menu across the top of the page. If not, go ahead and sign up by entering you name, and a password in the “Join LinkedIn Today” box on the right of the screen. Confirm your account through your address. Once you’ve done this, sign in and get started.

How create a profile Edit your profile. Edit your qualifications. Add a Summary. Add Specialties.

LinkedIn basics Add Connections. Join Groups.

Advanced basics Add Websites. Get Recommendations. Add Applications.

DOs DON’Ts DO provide thorough descriptions of positions DO use a professional looking photo DO update your profile often DO connect often to expand your network DO ask for recommendations DON’T decline invitations. Archive them. DON’T forget to use spell and grammar check! DON’T forget: LinkedIn is not Facebook or Twitter. Keep it professional. DON’T forget to connect after an interview.

Etiquette on LinkedIn Check often – daily if you can. Personalize invitations to connect. Ask for an introduction from someone you know to someone you would like to know. Don’t ask directly for a job. If someone doesn’t respond you may ask again, but then leave it. If you don’t know who is asking you to connect you may ask them to remind you. If you don’t know them – click on the I don’t know this person button. Post professional status up-dates on LinkedIn.

Have fun with it!
