Presentation transcript:

 The Greek word kreittōn, derived from a superlative, functioning as a comparative, refers to that which is “better.”  It pertains to being superior to something else in characteristics or function,  having a higher status, being higher in rank, or more prominent;  having a relative advantage in value, more advantageous, more serviceable or useful.

 In matters of commerce, we are mindful of the distinction between good, better and best.  However, in New Testament usage, the discussion of better things always has to do with that which is best.  In other words, God’s ways are better, i.e., infinitely superior to the ways of man.

 Christ Enjoys a Better Position (Heb. 1:1-9, esp. vs. 4).  Christ Provides a Better Priesthood (Hebrews 7:1-17, esp. vs. 7).  Christ Provides a Better Covenant (Heb. 7:18-22, esp. vs. 7; 8:1-6, esp. vs. 6).  Christ Provides a Better Sacrifice (Heb. 9:15-28, esp. vs. 23; 12:18-24, esp. vs. 24).  Christ Provides a Better Hope (Heb. 7:18-19; 10:32-35; 11:13-16, 32-40; Phil. 1:21-26).

 Christians Must Make Better Choices Regarding Marriage (1 Cor. 7:1-9, 25-31, 36-38; Prov. 5:15- 23).  Christians Must Make Better Choices Regarding Fellowship (1 Cor. 11:17-34, esp. vs. 17; Heb. 10:23-25).  Christians Must Make Better Choices Regarding Faithfulness (Heb. 6:1-9; 2 Pet. 2:20-22).  Christians Must Make Better Choices Regarding Suffering (1 Peter 3:13-17; 4:12-19).

 God’s ways are superior to the ways of men (Isa. 55:8-9).  Concerning the physical creation, Genesis 1:31 declares that “God saw all that He had made, and behold, it was very good” (cf. also Ps. 104:24-28).  In like manner, Mark 7:37 praises the ministry of Jesus Christ: “They were utterly astonished, saying, “He has done all things well.”

 Those who submit their lives to Jesus enjoy the best possible existence here below, and the promise of life eternal.  Have you rendered obedience to the gospel of Christ, and become a part of His new creation (Rom. 6:3-4; 2 Cor. 5:17)?
