Today’s Session… Quickly review the last session- what were some of the stand out facts? Understand what lifetime sports are and how they can be beneficial. What is Life-long physical activity? Why are SEDENTARY lifestyles on the up in the UK? What are the barriers?

So what are Lifetime Sports? These are activities which can be enjoyed over the WHOLE COURSE of a lifetime. What are some of these sports? Table Tennis Tennis Badminton Golf
Why are they Lifetime Sports? What are some of the key points that make these sports accessible to all? Non-Contact- the sports are not aggressive or have the element of physicality that most mainstream sports carry- meaning less wear and tear on the body as we get older i.e. Masters Tennis vs. Masters Football? Competitiveness- all of these sports can be played for RECREATION as well as COMPETITION- good days and bad days?
More… Social aspects- playing these sports can require 2 or more people to participate- conversation and relationships- joining a club/ society? Using activity/sport as a catharsis. Commitment- participants can dip in and out of these sports/activities- fixtures and timings etc?
Life-Long Physical Activity… This can also be known as Life Long Participation. This can be described as enjoyable, health- enhancing movement that can be sustained throughout life… These are activities such as yoga, cycling etc.
Increasingly Sedentary Lifestyles… Some Stats for you… 7/10 ADULTS in the UK do less than ONE 30-minute physical activity per week- Q: What is PHYSICAL ACTIVITY? A: JUST WALKING ABOUT! The Government recommend that young people take part in AT LEAST 2hours of Physical Activity A WEEK- however obesity levels in kids have never been worse.
So what are some of the impacting factors to cause sedentary lifestyles? Impacting Factors Desk Bound Jobs Technology i.e. Wii’s Exercise a Choice not a “Necessity” Less Manual Labour Computer Use Cars- Less Walking
How to develop and sustain a balanced active & healthy lifestyle… Adults 30 Mins. moderate physical activity at least 5x a week Young People 60 Mins. Moderate physical activity EACH DAY- at a minimum of 2x a week…

Lifetime activities generally aid mobility and help keep people well and happy.
