Emperor Penguin BY: ISABELLA

Describe how the animal looks:  No hands  Legs that are short  Sharp beaks  Really fat  Some penguins are orange, black and white.  Chicks are gray, black, and white.

Tell about the size of your animal:  Average weight of a penguin is 88 pounds.  The height is 45.5 inches.  It can walk 4.6 mph.  The Emperor is the largest of the 17 species of penguins.

Where do they live?  Penguins live on the Antarctic ice and under the water.  Some penguins live at the South Pole.

What do they eat?  Penguins eat fish.  The female emperor lays the egg and then leaves to the sea.  Then the male emperor warms and guards the egg for 65 days.  Next, the female comes back with food for the baby that they spit up.  Finally, the dad leaves and goes to sea to feed on fish.

Interesting Facts  Penguins do the wave to keep warm.  Their life span is 20 years.  They have diet of meat.  Classification is a bird.  The babies hatch in December.  The penguins huddle up to stay warm.  They cannot fly.
