The Education Endowment Foundation Kevan Collins 26th September

The EEF mission To break the link between family background and educational achievement, ensuring that children from all backgrounds can fulfil their aspirations and make the most of their talents.

The attainment gap over time

Achieving our mission: The EEF strategy We aim to raise the attainment of children facing disadvantage by: Building the evidence for what works in schools by identifying and rigorously evaluating evidence-based approaches to teaching and learning Sharing the evidence with schools by providing independent and accessible information through the Teaching and Learning Toolkit Promoting the use of evidence-based practice through our projects, events and resources such as the DIY Evaluation Guide for schools

The EEF approach Synthesise existing evidence Make grants Evaluate projects

From early development to scale-up Identification of promising ‘leads’ ‘Product’development &trialling Finding structures for roll out Securing widespread adoption and adaptation within ‘margin of fidelity’ Many Projects Few Projects Many Schools Roll-outEvaluationGrant-making Evaluation of impact and cost effectiveness determines which projects pass through the gate Few Schools

Approach to evaluation A new and robust approach to evaluation in education: Independent evaluation All projects evaluated by a member of our panel of evaluation experts Common outcome metrics Effect on attainment and cost—so we can compare and contrast between projects Focus on longitudinal impact All pupils will be tracked using the National Pupil Database

Teaching and Learning Toolkit

The EEF by numbers 55 projects funded to date 1,300 schools participating in projects 16 independent evaluation teams 275,000 pupils involved in EEF projects £200 m estimated spend over lifetime of the EEF 3,000 heads presented to since launch
