Personal, Social and Emotional Development How can you help? You can help by encouraging your child to use the toilet independently, wash their hands, put on and fasten their coats. Playing games which encourage sharing and turn taking will help your child to build their social skills.

Baseline assessments This year is the first year of baseline assessments, we are not doing any tests, and not disrupting any settling in but building our knowledge of each child through observations, interactions and everyday activities. This will enable us to make a series of judgements based on a clear set of assessment criteria.

Learning Journals A record of your child’s learning. Observations, photographs and examples of work. Teacher + Child + Parent voice – Please complete your wow slips!

Wow Slips These will be sent home on a regular basis, please return them to school so that your child can share these with the rest of the class. Achievements that your child is proud of. E.g. cycling without stabilisers, helping a younger sibling, a swimming award etc.

Phonics Phase 1 – environmental sounds, alliteration and rhyme. Phase 2 – Introduce some single letter sounds and start to blend and segment. Phase 3 – Introduce remaining letter sounds and patterns to blend and segment. Phase 4 – No new sounds but lots of reading and spelling longer words.

Reading and Home Learning Children will start off with a sharing book. Once they are able to blend and segment they will be given a reading book. Children will have a reading diary in their book bag for you to record books they have read and comments that you would like us to know. Please ensure that these are kept in your child’s book bag and that they are in school everyday.

Uniform Reminder Uniform and bags need to be clearly labelled with names please! 23 jumpers and 23 t-shirts all look the same when we are getting changed for PE! If you have a spare pair of wellies please bring them in so your child can wear them in the rain and mud. Please check the LOST PROPERTY box, which is kept in the Reception Cloakroom.

Forest School We are excited about the opportunity to develop Forest School this year. We will send home a note to let you know when your child will be participating. Please can you try and send in wellies, tracksuit trousers and a waterproof coat, it is extremely important they are properly dressed.

Bits and Bobs Please ensure your child’s lunch box is healthy and without sweets and chocolates. Picking up and dropping off. Safeguarding. Please leave toys at home! Thank you
