Introductions Name Community/Organization you represent Icebreaker question: How have you seen obesity impact you or those around you?

APIOPA – The Past Unofficially started in 2004, in response to Regional Nutrition Networks for Healthy, Active Families RFA. Officially formed as APIOPA in 2007.

APIOPA – The Past Hired staff and received funding to form Community Advisory Groups, conduct trainings, hold quarterly meeting, and build a foundation for where we are today.

APIOPA – The Present SAFE for APIs We are advocating that public parks adopt standards for safety, cleanliness and culturally competent family programming to promote active and healthy lifestyles. Currently we are working on Lennox Park (Lennox) and Victoria Park (Carson).

APIOPA – The Present Community Gardens We have 2 sowing beds, in partnership with Guam Comm. Network and Tongan Comm. Service Center in Long Beach

APIOPA – The Present Community Supported Agriculture We are exploring new ground with CSA programs. SIPA has started one in Pilipinotown, and APIOPA is starting one later this month.

APIOPA – The Present API Recipe Books We are working with community members and dieticians to analyze what’s in traditional API recipes.

APIOPA – The Present API Obesity Data We are looking through already-conducted research to find API-specific data on obesity and related issues.

APIOPA – The Future How can APIOPA be a resource for you? o Collaborate on grants? o Provide obesity-related data? o Trainings, workshops? o Quarterly meetings?

APIOPA Membership There are no fees or requirements necessary to become a member. Our goal is simply to connect, educate and empower organizations and groups who work on Asian and Pacific Islander obesity-related issues, to better help the communities they serve. If you are interested in becoming a member, please talk to Scott.

Some “Healthy” Competition Active for Life Campaign Competition amongst APIOPA member agencies Winner gets a really, really, really big trophy to display.
