GIFT OF TIME ROGER DEMETR

INTRO ‘Gift of Time’ is a project based on 5 photographs that tell a story related to time. But what is time? Time is a gift, by giving someone your time we learn and grow together. It cannot be manipulated. My story tells how time is a gift of knowledge and talent, by a sketch that comes to life. It is like a step my step process of a hand being drawn and coming to life.

FORM I took 2 photographs both medium shots, aiming down at my sketchbook, one with a hand in and one without, both landscape shots. The pictures were edited in Photoshop and made black and white, but I also used spot colour to get the main object I “used” to add tone to the photographs. I have used manual focus to get full control of what I wanted shown.

FORM I also used open sans typeface, as they are very simple and modern, which reflects the style I drawn the hand in my photographs. Taking 2 pictures in the same position would be impossible if not using a tripod so I also used a tripod and took as many pictures as I could to get the perfect shots I needed, I did have problems with lights so I had to use a room with most lights coming in from outside.

STEPS What I did was:  Import photo of hand into Autodesk Sketchbook Pro  Traced the hand and imported it to Photoshop with some editing to fix uneven colours.  Removed the background with the magic wand tool on photoshop and placed it on top of the blank paper photo. This was repeated throughout the process but with more details to the sketch.

RESEARCH Based on research I was inspired by Tom Hussey and FQWIMAGES, as they are very good with manipulating photographs and I find it really creative. My target audience are digital artists and people who admire digital art, which is a very wide audience, the art was all digital, made on a smartphone.

EVALUATION Overall I think I have achieved what I had in mind to the right standard but I would have preferred my old idea which I was unable to create due to some difficulties. I think the spot colour works very well and adds contrast which is a good effect. I could have taken the pictures from a better angle but I had difficulties with placement of the tripod.
