Electronica / New age Gradually music technology came down in price allowing musicians to independently play several instruments on the same album, leading to experimenting with new sounds and beats. This lead to albums by people such a MIKE OLDFIELD, AIR and ENYA who layered their own vocals or instruments sometimes upwards of 100 times. Manufactured pop The 1980s had seen pure commercial pop stars develop and others wanted to cash in on the success. This led to Manufactured pop in which pop groups and solo artists were put together by record labels and then actively promoted to the masses, a trend that has continued until today with shows such as The X Factor.
