Create a PPT to compare the Battle of Gettysburg Vs. another battle from de Civil War. (Vicksburg, Chatanooga, Chickamagua). Use statistics: casualties, age of soldiers and any relevant data related to the Civil War. Write an “I am” poem From the perspective of either Lincoln or Harriet Jacobs. Use relevant information. Learn it and recite it in class. Create a political cartoon that shows a particular perspective, from either the Union or Confederacy, during the Civil War. (Individual work) Write out an imaginary dialogue of what might have happened if Harriet Jacobs (Linda) had had a chance to meet President Lincoln after running away from her masters. Finish with a different ending for the story “Incidents in the life of a Slave Girl”. Imagine that you are an advisor to President Lincoln, write a letter to him giving advice on issuing the Emancipation Proclamation. Include dilemmas, pros and cons, and border state perspective. Create an advertisement poster to recruit men to join either the North or the South’s army. (May include slaves).Perform Dramatization about recruiting men to join either army. Predict what might have happened if the South had won the Civil War. Write an essay describing how history might have changed and how the world today would be different. (you must use the full sheet) - It must be hand drawn (stick figures and “Photoshopped” pictures are not acceptable) - If colored (use color pencils only – no markers, pens, crayons, water colors, etc) - The BACK of the cartoon should have: Title of Cartoon Name/Grade Date -At least one character related to the American Civil War must be included. - Represent one of the following literary elements: * Sarcasm (Verbal Irony) * Hyperbole * Methaphor How do I begin to create a political cartoon? First you must ask yourself, “What is the issue I want to write about?” A good way to decide is to look over your notes. What issue stands out to you? Meaning, was there something that shocked you, something that you think is not right, something that seems hypocritical, something that you think needs change, something that is emotional, etc?
