Decipher My Hieroglyphics Interpreting Teacher Feedback - Lab Report #1

Your Challenge …. ●Homework: Write your teacher a letter covering the top three things you need to improve when it comes to writing a lab report. ■most frequent error ■most points deducted

Before you write …. Read ALL my comments: Do you know what the comment says? Do you understand what the comment expects you to do to improve? Where are the skills/resources that can help you accomplish this?

Let’s practice... Take out: ○Lab Report Checklist (used for peer edits) ○Lab Report Rubric (in your Reference section) The Activity: 1.Read the comment. 2.With your buddy, identify what the comment is specifically about. 3.Clues will be given to which section it most likely was taken from, use your resources to answer.

Example #1 Clue: ●Two different corrections. ○First in Problem section ○Second found throughout: ■grammar rule

Example #2 Clue: ●Data Charts and Graphs ●Analysis Section

Label all your Quantitative Data Numerical data means nothing without a label. Ex) The farthest average distance was for wrist arm movement for 547. Correct: The farthest average distance for wrist arm movement was for 547 cm. Common errors on: ●Irregular Solid Act (classwork) ●Metric Accountability Quiz 547 what….. bunnies???

Example #3 Clue: ●Graphs and Data Charts

Example #4 Clue: ●Both found in the Analysis section ●Give specific examples for each

Trends Vs. Raw Data Raw Data: ●Just listing the actual data directly from the data table ●Explaining what is initially seen from the raw data (not “processed”/analyzed) ●Collected during the experiment Trends: ●Comparing and contrasting the results relative to each other ●Calculating range (lowest and highest value) and/or difference between each average ●Discussing outliers (reasons for outliers can be explained in the Conclusion section) ●Collected/calculated after the experiment has been completed

Analyze Data for Trends

Range and correlation?

How does this clearly show an outlier in your data?

My Own Data Analysis

Reorganize the X Axis

Example Calculation Example from lab: The average was calculated by adding the three values together and dividing by the number of trials. For example = 97 /3 = cm.

What is a closer, anyways? Necessary in several sections: ●Procedure ●Analysis ●Conclusion Restate the purpose is an “ok” way to do this…. work on a more “global approach”.

Now what? ●Second Formal Lab later this week ●Second Formal Lab Report due in about one week ●This will be considered your First Quarter Project and will count as a TEST grade
