Childsmile is a national programme designed to improve the oral health of children in Scotland and reduce inequalities both in dental health and access to dental services. Focus for today – Childsmile Early Years Pathway
Background Pathway involves public health nurses, dental health support workers, dental nurses and dentists Pilot from Sept 2010 – March 2011 and reported in May 2011 Roll out to all health boards from October 2011 Based on ‘Getting it Right’ principles
Integration with Pre-school Child Health Surveillance Pathway initiated by referral decision at 6-8 week assessment Universal assessment Can record and track decision making Data linkage with dental databases at ISD 24-30 month assessment
Further Developments Local board areas developing wider access to patient management systems e.g. Lanarkshire and Ayrshire & Arran Data linkage piloting in Autumn 2012
