Places Bar The Places bar contains shortcuts to five standard folders: History, Desktop, My Documents, My Computer, and My Network Places. (We’re looking at the Open dialog box right now, but the Places Bar is also a feature of the Save As and Insert Picture dialog boxes.)

Places Bar Shortcut Descriptions Displays a list of recently opened files, folders, and objects Displays a list of files, folders, and objects on the Windows 2000 desktop Displays a list of files, folders, and objects in the My Documents folder Displays a list of files, folders, and objects in the My Computer window Displays a list of computers and folders objects available on the network

Current contents of the My Documents folder My Documents folder appears in the Look in list box My Documents selected When the My Documents shortcut is selected, for example, the My Documents folder appears in the Look in list box, and the contents of the My Documents folder are displayed.

When you click another of the shortcuts on the Places Bar (such as My Computer, as shown above), the corresponding folder name is then displayed in the Look in list box, and the contents of that folder are displayed. Current contents of the My Computer folder My Computer folder appears in the Look in list box My Computer selected

You can double-click any item listed in the contents area to open that item. For example, the My Computer shortcut (shown above) contains all the drives on your computer. Therefore, from the My Computer file display you can open any drive and then open any folder anywhere on that drive.
