Just who was James Zadroga? NYPD officer who spent 450 hours participating in the recovery and rescue operations at the scene of 9/11 WTC attack Weeks after helping at the scene, he developed a respiratory disease, leaving him unable to walk further than 100m without becoming totally breathless Zadroga was the first NYPD officer to have his death attributed to toxic chemical exposure at the scene of the attack In 2004, the forgotten hero of 9/11 was awarded a settlement in excess of $1million dollars, for his injuries It is after him, that the Zadroga Health & Compensation Act is named (1971 – January 5 th 2006)

So What is the Zadroga Health & Compensation Act? Federal legislation aimed at providing financial aid & healthcare to injured & sick 9/11 workers

Why did it take so long to come? The Zadroga Bill was sponsored by Senator Bob Menendez & Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney, but originally did not pass A new version of the bill passed in Sept 2010, but was met by Republican opposition on December Republicans would not budge until tax cuts for families who earned over $250k were passed
