Parts of Speech Project Set a purpose: Research shows that you retain 90 percent of the information that you teach to others. In this project, you will be teaching the other students in your class about a part of speech.

What the heck is a part of speech? A part of speech is what we use to label the parts of a sentence. Common examples are, nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs.

Why does it matter? It is important for you to know what these are so that you can create meaningful sentences in your writing.

Ok, so what do we have to do? You are going to be assigned a group. Your group will then be assigned a part of speech that you must research.

Cool, so on the computer? Not this time. You have a great amount of resources in your Write Coach books.

Step 3 Use your INDEX to find your part of speech in the write coach book. Step 2 Become experts on your part of speech. Don’t just copy the definition down. Practice with each other, go over the examples. You are going to be the teacher. You HAVE to know what you are talking about. Decide as a group how you are visually going to get all of your information out for you classmates. You can create a poster, a note sheet on construction paper, a brochure, whatever way you want to show the information. Step 1 Step 4 Use the rubric(next slide) to create your product of notes. Step 5 Now you must teach it to the class. Using your technology or mine, you are to create a short(5 min or less), meaningful video where you teach your information. You will upload the video to my youtube channel when you are finished and I will play these videos throughout the 6 weeks to help us take notes.
