Letter from the Editor This month’s issue of AGM magazine is doing something special. We are honoring the sixtieth anniversary of Joseph Campbells “The Hero with a Thousand Faces.” It is a very profound publication focusing on the Heroic Cycle and Homeric heroes. However, dear readers, we are not just focusing on Odysseus. The other major hero of this thrilling tale is Odysseus’ own son, Telemachus. So faithful in his quest to find his father, Telemachus displayed a courage and valor that could stand up to the seasoned hero himself.. Granted, Odysseus and his son Telemachus are the stars of The Odyssey, but who was holding down the fort when both men were gone? Penelope is just as noteworthy for her ability to stand up to her wild suitors. Sure, Penelope didn’t face down Scylla and Charybdis, but she fought her own monsters through the entire tale. What is more, we even included a few articles about the suitors! Who knows, maybe you’ll find that they are heroic in their own ways… But, maybe, you ask: how does this all tie into “The Hero with a Thousand Faces?” Well, heroes come in many shapes and sizes. The moments that define them as heroes differ depending on the person and the situation. We are honoring this thought by exploring all the different heroes in The Odyssey. Page 6
