CST is important because……  Teachers and administrators need to meet the diverse needs of all students.  CST is a collaborative effort that maximizes the benefits to all students.  Federal and State legislation has changed the roles and responsibilities of educators.

Who benefits from CST? Students grades K-6 Teachers Parents Greenwich Central School District

Goals For CST To increase parent participation. To increase teacher’s awareness of CST. To increase the number of teachers who refer to CST, prior to CSE. To increase the number of times the committee meets on a student.

Ways to meet goals: Develop effective referral procedures for CST. Have procedures reviewed during Superintendent’s Conference days and placed in the teacher handbook. Develop a brochure to be sent out to parents prior to the start of the new school year explaining CST and its services.

Procedures for CST The teacher or parent requests that the CST process begin. Complete and return packet to Chairperson, copies are given to team members. A meeting is scheduled. At the meeting the team gathers information from both teacher and parents. The team decides whether the referral is academic / other or behavioral.

Academic / Other Referral Review reason for referral. Discuss and designate screenings. Reconvene to discuss results. Decide on interventions. Reconvene within four weeks to assess progress.

Progress being met. Discuss plan. Provide support to both teacher and student. Continue with plan and reconvene at a later date to assess progress.

Little or no progress. Discuss and revise plan. Provide support to both teacher and student. Reconvene within four weeks to assess progress. Either refer to CSE or continue with plan.

Behavioral Referral Review reason for referral. Assign observations if needed. Teacher/Student interview questions completed. Reconvene to discuss observations. Develop a behavioral implementation plan. Schedule a review date.

Progress being met. BIP remains in place. Schedule review meeting.

Little or no progress being made. Review and revise BIP. Schedule a review meeting.

Goals for CST To increase parent participation to at least 80%. To increase teacher’s awareness of the team. To increase the number of teachers who refer to CST, prior to CSE. To increase the number of times the committee meets on a student.

As a team we have successfully met three of the four goals.
