LumeCel™ Technology FAQ

Q:Does the LumeCel™ MB3000 operate in the same way as the standard MB3000? A:Yes. The LumeCel™ MB3000 has all the same functions and performance of the standard unit, but with the added advantage of never needing to replace batteries. Q:Where should I position the LumeCel™ MB3000? A:In a similar position to the standard MB3000, but pay attention to expose the unit to the lighting in the washroom. Avoid dark areas and shadows. Q:Will the unit require charging when first installed? A:No. When new, the LumeCel™ MB3000 is 80% - 100% charged. The unit will work immediately and will automatically charge itself from artificial or natural light. Q:How long will the unit last? A:The life expectancy of the unit, itself, is 10 years; however, the LumeCel™ rechargeable energy cell is guaranteed to function for at least 15 years. Frequently Asked Questions

Q:What type of maintenance is required? A:The unit is fully automated and needs no maintenance other than the replacement of fragrance refills and the occasional cleaning with a mild surface cleaner to keep the dispenser looking it’s best! Q:How much light does the dispenser need to operate? A:Provided that your washroom complies with current lighting for health and safety standards, lighting should be more than adequate. Optimum performance occurs between lux at average settings. Q:What happens to the unit at the end of its lifetime? A:The LumeCel™ MB3000 is fully recyclable and should be deposited at your local recycling center. All parts are recoverable and the components can be recycled and used again, keeping the planet greener and cleaner. Frequently Asked Questions

Q:Is this a Lithium-Ion battery? A:No. The LumeCel™ rechargeable energy cell is from the same family as nickel metal hydride, one of the greenest batteries available today, that has been engineered specifically for this application. Q:What is the life expectancy of the rechargeable energy cell? A:A guaranteed minimum of 15 years active service and certainly longer life than the rest of the MB3000 components. Q:How many dry cell batteries will I save over a life time by changing to LumeCel™? A:Approximately 30 alkaline C cell batteries over a period of 15 years, but savings will be realized in the decrease of maintenance time, and logistics around replacing batteries. Frequently Asked Questions

Q:What about memory effect of Ni-Mh batteries? A:As LumeCel™ is a balanced system (power generation versus power used), the Ni- Mh power source acts purely as a temporary energy reservoir. As such, it is nearly 100% immune to any memory effect and will certainly not affect the performance of the MB3000. Q:What about Li-ion? A:In this application, nickel-metal hydride LSD (Low Self Discharge) is used, which is a custom solution for this development and, unlike Li-ion, doesn’t need energy wasting control electronics for safety. Frequently Asked Questions

Q:If the rechargeable energy cell is depleted of power, how long does it take to recharge? A:Although it is almost impossible for the unit to run out of power under normal circumstances, should it ever happen, the unit will automatically recharge itself when exposed to artificial or natural light and will be ready for operation in just over an hour. Q:In the event you store the dispenser in an environment that has zero light all day, what is going to happen? A1:In reality this is almost never going to happen, however, in the case that it does, the dispensers will run for 200 days on a fully charged battery before depletion of all energy. Even then, the system will self recover automatically with some exposure to light. Tests were done with severely depleted Ni-Mh –LSD cell packs and in around 1 hour of light exposure after depletion, the system was back to 100% functionality A2:In a normal environment of 300 to 500 lux the system will run almost indefinitely.
