Project 3: Uniform Dialing Plan, Support of Supplemental Services, and Future Feature Code Standardization Fred Gaechter IFAST Chairman An SAIC Company

Network Interconnection – 2 Uniform Dialing Plan, Support of Supplemental Services, and Future Feature Code Standardization  Identify dialing plan components potentially appropriate for worldwide uniformity in ANSI-41 networks.  Determine current worldwide dialing plan components’ implementations.  Develop a migration plan for worldwide uniformity implementation.

Network Interconnection – 3 Project Issues  Uniformity in offering services to international roamers.  Uniformity of dialing method to access services, e.g., Customer Service, Directory Assistance, Emergency Calling, LD Operator, Supplemental Services.  Uniformity of Feature Code access to Supplemental Services - activation, deactivation, invocation.  Uniformity of subscriber activation/deactivation awareness by tones/announcements.

Network Interconnection – 4 Proposed Project Work Plan  Agree to project issues - previous slide.  Develop, disseminate, and analyze an international survey of ANSI-41 based service providers/network operators regarding the project issues.  Use the survey results to determine potential areas for international uniformity.  If potential uniformity exists, create an implementation plan.  Where uniformity seems unlikely, discuss potential alternative solutions.

Network Interconnection – 5 Objective For This Meeting Develop and agree to the content of an international industry survey.

Network Interconnection – 6 Potential Survey Questions  What are your basic and supplementary services?  Are they available for international roamers?  How are basic services (e.g., Customer Service, Directory Assistance, Emergency Calling, Long Distance Operator) accessed in your network?  What Supplementary Services are available to international roamers in your network? (e.g., 3- way calling, call forwarding, etc.)  How are subscribers aware of a successful activation/deactivation, i.e., tones or announcements? If announcements, what language(s)?
