EDGAR ALLAN POE BIOGRAPHY Edgar Allan Poe was born on January 19 th, 1809.His parents, David and Elizabeth, had three children which were Henry, Edgar, and Rosalie. Poe’s mom died when Edgar was 2. When Poe turned 6 he went to school in England for 5 years. He learned Latin and French, as well as math and history. Later on he would return to America and go to the university of Virginia but he dropped out in less than a year. Then Poe,18, would go to Boston to join the army in He did so well that he attained the rank of sergeant major. In 1835, Edgar got a job as a newspaper editor because he won a contest with his story, “The Manuscript Found in a Bottle.” After about a year Edgar Allan Poe would go on to marry his first cousin, Virginia Clemm. But also before Poe married Virginia, he went to the army in 1827 and he was 18.

EDGAR ALLAN POE BIOGRAPHY(CONTINUED) In 1836, Poe moved from editor of the newspaper because of his poor salary so he went to be editor of the Southern Literary Messenger. Poe would then go on to move to many publicists. In 1845, Poe and his family moved to a small cottage near what is now East 192 nd street. But Poe Started to get depressed as he began to see Virginia’s health fading away. Virginia then died in 1847, 10 days after Poe’s birthday. Poe then planned to marry Sarah Royster Shelton in October. On October 3 rd Poe was found at Gunner’s Hall unconscious. Poe would later die in the hospital on October 7 th His last words were “Lord help my poor soul.”

MY THEORY ON POE’S DEATH In my opinion I think Edgar Allan Poe died from a combination of his brain disease syndrome and his really bad drinking problem. I think that Edgar Allan Poe had a bad drinking problem ever since his wife, Virginia, died.
