EMERGENCY CALLS Learning Objective: Children will be able to familiarise themselves on how to make a 999 call. Children will be aware of what information is required when making a 999 call.

EMERGENCY CALLS Success Criteria: Children will know how to make a 999 call. Children will know what information is required when making a 999 call.

EMERGENCY CALLS Task: When do you think you should call the Fire Service? Discuss with your partner when you think you should do so.

EMERGENCY CALLS When would you dial 999? If they see a fire If they see a car crash If someone needs to be rescued from the water. If someone is trapped. If there is a chemical spillage.

What would you do if saw one of these incidents? EMERGENCY CALLS What would you do if saw one of these incidents? Dial 999 (It is a free call from a phone box, landline or mobile phone, even if it is locked.) Speak clearly and calmly to the operator providing the following information… What service you require Address of where the incident is. Town, district, area. Could you describe the area? Do you recognise any landmarks? Can you describe what the problem is clearly and concisely? Now let’s listen to a real 999 call.

EMERGENCY CALLS The Landmark Game: In pairs you will be given images of various landmarks. Take turns in describing a landmark to the other person. The other person has to guess what the landmark is. The one who guesses correctly the most times wins the game.

EMERGENCY CALLS Role Play: In your pairs act out different scenarios where you would need to call the Fire Service. One of you will be the caller and the other one will be the operator. Remember what information you will need to give the operator.

EMERGENCY CALLS Plenary/Review: Share what you have learned about making a 999 call. Do you feel that they have achieved the learning objective? Your homework is to learn your whole address, including postcode. If you already know your whole address, your challenge is to learn your school address or relatives, local hospital, etc
