Heaven is for real By: Todd Burpo

The beginning In this book, Todd Burpo writes about the horrible pain their family was put through. Well, his son Colton was sick. Really, really sick. Colton’s appendix burst and they didn’t find out until almost a week later. The doctors in their town of Imperial did no good. So they went to a children's hospital in Denver. That’s when they found out that Colton was NOT in good condition. Todd describes everything he was feeling, and everything that happened while his son was slowly slipping away. Colton underwent a few surgeries and eventually he got better. It wasn’t until a while after that Todd and Sonja noticed something strange with Colton.

Colton's stories At the time, Colton was 3 years old. And after everything happened, he would tell his parents these fascinating stories. Stories about the “three minutes he spent in heaven”.

Let me tell you about heaven After Colton said one small detail about heaven, his parents automatically wanted more. I don’t blame them! So they would ask him stuff about heaven. They asked him what Jesus wore, and Colton told them. Without hesitation, Colton told them exactly what the angels in heaven wore. He told them about the rainbow colors, the nails in Jesus, and he even told them exactly who sat on each side of God’s throne. He said that the angels sang to him so he wouldn’t be scared. Of course, his parents were amazed. All of this was coming from a 3 year old! I mean, yes, the family was very religious. Colton of course knew the basics. But Todd and Sonja never actually went into detail like that. That wasn’t even the best of it.

Hidden secret Colton wasn’t done with his surprises. One day, he asked his mom if he had a sister. He did have an older sister, yes. But he was asking if he had a sister that wasn’t there with them. Because he said he met her in heaven. His mom could barely speak now. Because before Colton was even born, she WAS pregnant. But she miscarried. Colton told his mom that his sister couldn’t wait to meet her parents. She cried.

My thoughts I really thought the Burpo’s story was truly amazing. It’s one of those things where it could go either way. It could be the wild imagination of a 3 year old, or it could be the absolute truth. Personally, I definitely believe it. It really tugged on my heart strings, for sure!!
