Definitions Anatomy: The part of science dealing with the structural organization of living things, what they consist of, how they are built The “What” Physiology: The part of science dealing with how the body functions Deals with basic processes such as growth, metabolism, reproduction, etc.

Exercise Science (a.k.a. Exercise Physiology) We are concerned with how athletes can improve performance and will examine everything in this course from that perspective.

“Fitness” What is it? A) The capacity to live an optimal life B) A functional capacity of well being that is influenced by and associated with participation in physical activity
