The Patrol Activity Badge A simple guide to setting up and running patrol activities By Geoff Martin

My Patrol is the Falcon Patrol. We are an active Patrol. I am the A.P.L. We’re in an active Troop.

Me Will - PL Michael AndrewLuke Amy

I’m really active

Our Leaders are active too.

Planning Requirements for Patrol Activity Badge Either click on these links to skip through or just wait to be taken through at my pace. PA badges and Proficiency Badges

The first thing you do when you are planning a Patrol Activity Badge is consult your Patrol about what they want to do. There is nothing worse than you going to all the trouble in organising the activity if no one wants to do it.

The first thing our Patrol did was discuss what we wanted to do during Patrol time. Some of the suggestions were: Camps, rock climbing, surfing, skiing. We finally decided on the District Billy Cart Derby.

After you have decided what you want to do the Patrol Leader goes to the Troop Council and puts forward your plan. (Will did this for Falcons.) The Troop Council talks about what you want do and decides whether it fits into a Patrol activity.

Luke In Our Billy Cart Not Bad hey! Me In Our Billy Cart Even Better hey!

 You can also make a Patrol activity a proficiency badge if you meet the requirements.  a minimum of eight hours for each Patrol member  Troop Council sets standards and decides when the badge should be awarded.  There must be at least 4 Scouts in the Patrol but no more than 8.  Can be an existing Patrol or a special one for this activity.

We knew that we wouldn’t have enough hours for a Patrol Activity Badge from just the day at the Billy Cart Derby. Will organised for us to go to Sean’s house one Scout night and work on the billycart.

With that we knew we had enough hours for a Patrol Activity but we didn’t stop there. Will and Sean organised another night and a Saturday for Sean’s dad and Luke’s dad to teach us to weld. We welded our billycart together. This got us our Trades Proficiency badge. So there’s an example of how to combine a Patrol Activity with a Proficiency badge.
