Workforce Innovation in Regional Economic Development (WIRED) 2 “So much of what we call management consists in making it difficult for people to work.” - Peter Drucker

Workforce Innovation in Regional Economic Development (WIRED) 3 1.DUDE WHERE’S MY WORKSPACE? An update. 2.WHAT’S THE PLAN, MAN? A look at the proposed design. 3.CAN I GET FRIES WITH THAT? What issues, frameworks, policies are right for you? 4.A COLLABORATIVE … WHATNOW? A look at SharePoint technology in action. 5.OKAY … BUT I STILL DON’T GET IT. Answers to your questions. ISSUES ON THE AGENDA

Workforce Innovation in Regional Economic Development (WIRED) 4 DUDE, WHERE’S MY WORKSPACE?

Workforce Innovation in Regional Economic Development (WIRED) 5 WHAT’S THE PLAN, MAN? Implement and manage a world-class collaborative environment designed to manage multiple simultaneous innovation products and share ideas and practices across all innovations. MISSION:

Workforce Innovation in Regional Economic Development (WIRED) 6 WHAT’S THE PLAN, MAN? A truly collaborative environment where information is exchanged, ideas evolve, and innovations can blossom. A vehicle to accountability where progress can be measured against individual innovation scorecards, and the “DeRocco Scorecard”; where an innovation can be tracked through our stage gate process. A world-class model which demonstrates best practices in online collaboration, and enforces world-class information management. VISION:

Workforce Innovation in Regional Economic Development (WIRED) 7 WHAT’S THE PLAN, MAN? Deploy a collaborative workspace for West Michigan. Create a collaborative workspace for each innovation group. Communicate the purpose and value of online collaboration. Train leaders in each innovation group to use their collaborative workspace. GOALS (SHORT-TERM):

Workforce Innovation in Regional Economic Development (WIRED) 8 WHAT’S THE PLAN, MAN? Evolve the initial collaborative framework to support scorecard management. Implement stage gate process management within the West Michigan workspace. Create policies and practices which direct users through the collaborative environment. Continue to provide training for each innovation group. GOALS (FIRST YEAR):

Workforce Innovation in Regional Economic Development (WIRED) 9 WHAT’S THE PLAN, MAN? Ensure that each innovation group can manage its own online collaboration efforts. Evolve the collaborative workspace to be completely managed within our region. Provide a palette of additional tools which could be used on a per-innovation basis. Continuously examine our collaboration processes for opportunities for improvement. GOALS (LONG-TERM):
