Casualty Definition Anyone lost to an organization who is declared: ä Dead, Wounded, Injured, Diseased ä Interned, Captured, Retained ä Missing or Missing in Action ä Beleaguered, Besieged or Detained

Telephonic Notification Indiv in these categories will require telephonic notification to the PNOK by the Cdr of a medical facility. When this is not possible, DA assumes responsibility. ä VSI – Very Seriously Injured or Ill ä Possible Death w/in 72 hours ä SI – Seriously Injured or Ill ä Critical but stable ä SPECAT – Special Category ä Stable special circumstances (I.e. loss of leg) ä NSI – Not Seriously Injured or Ill as a result of a Hostile Action ä Reportable but indiv rtn to duty ä NSI – Not Seriously Injured or Ill as a result of a Non- Hostile action subject to special interest Not reportable (sprained ankles, broken legs, etc)

All soldiers are entitled to some Casualty benefits they may not be aware of. If any soldier has a family member (Enrolled in DEERs ) that becomes a casualty then they need to come to or call the Casualty Operations office at III Corps, BLDG 1001, room 124C, and receive assistance in filing for these benefits.
