Module 2.1 Working with Addition

What do you know about addition? Addition involves having two or more parts which are joined together. Can anyone give an example of an addition story? Working with Addition

What do you know about bears? What do you think this story might be about? Read Story Working with Addition

What happened in the story? What did you see in each picture? There are always bears already on the bus and bears that are getting on the bus. Working with Addition

Turn to page 4-5. What did you see happening here? What can we write about the two groups of bears? What is a short way to use numbers to write about the bears? Working with Addition

Our addition sentences tell us about a total number of bears. It also tells us about the two parts that make the total. Which number shows us the total? Which numbers show us the parts? Working with Addition

Reflection Review 2.1 What is the “Part” and what is the “Total” in Questions 2 and 3. What did you notice about the Number Sentence in the Step Ahead? 10=6+4 and 6+4=10 Do you think these addition sentences are the same? Why or Why Not?
